Russell Westbrook is one of the most polarizing players in the NBA. He has been a top ten player for his entire career, but he also has a reputation for being an instigator and a poor teammate. In order to improve their team’s chances at winning, the Wizards traded for him last year. The trade looked like it was going to be a win-win situation–until Westbrook asked for a trade after just six games.
Russell Westbrook tried to bring the Wizards organization to its knees before asking for a trade. The Thunder point guard was asked about his future with the team and he said, I’ll let you know when I want to talk about that.
Russell Westbrook will attempt to assist the Los Angeles Lakers in their quest for a title. However, before to joining the Purple and Gold, Westbrook tried to destabilize the Washington Wizards from inside by attempting to persuade Bradley Beal to leave The District.
On the surface, Westbrook’s departure from the Wizards seemed to be amicable. However, if The Brodie had convinced Beal to beg out, he would have brought the organization to its knees.
Russell Westbrook urged Bradley Beal to approach the Wizards and request a trade.
Russell Westbrook’s connection with Bradley Beal has been scrutinized since the Wizards acquired him from the Houston Rockets last summer. However, the two superstars seemed to love playing together so much that Westbrook seemed to be hoping Beal would join him somewhere.
According to The Athletic, Westbrook had discussions with Beal about requesting a trade and departing Washington in the weeks leading up to the 2021 NBA Draft. Now, it’s unlikely that both Westbrook and Beal would have landed on the same club if they had both requested a trade. Those are two big sums for any club to take on at once.
Westbrook’s evident eagerness to include Beal in his summer plans, on the other hand, shows that he really wants to keep playing alongside the star 2-guard. Despite reports to the contrary, Beal has said that he wants to create something in Washington and has therefore refused to entertain Westbrook.
Beal refused to seek a trade but ultimately backed Westbrook in his pursuit of a move to Los Angeles.
Russell Westbrook planned his next move after failing to persuade Bradley Beal to seek a trade. Nonetheless, he desired Beal’s help.
Westbrook has shown interest in joining the Lakers at one point. According to The Athletic, his desire for a trade increased after hearing about the Los Angeles Lakers’ talks for Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield.
Ted Leonsis, the Wizards’ governor, was contacted by the former league MVP about transferring him to the Lakers. Westbrook returned to Beal as well, this time to obtain confirmation of his willingness to trade. Beal pledged his support, clearing the door for an agreement to be reached in Washington.
In a five-team deal, the Wizards traded Westbrook to the Lakers in exchange for Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell. Both parties seemed to be on good terms, with Westbrook getting to play for his hometown club and general manager Tommy Sheppard providing financial flexibility in the future.
However, it’s difficult to overlook Westbrook’s efforts to deprive the Wizards of their franchise cornerstone prior to imposing his will in trade negotiations.
If Bradley Beal had followed Russell Westbrook in asking out the Wizards, the team might have been devastated.

In recent years, the Wizards have made it obvious that Bradley Beal is their franchise player. After all, why not?
Beal has developed into one of the NBA’s greatest scorers and playmakers. On a career-high 48.5 percent shooting from the field, he averaged 31.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. The three-time All-Star shown that he could be just as deadly off the ball as he was on it. On a team in urgent need of an impact player, Beal is quickly becoming one of the greatest players in the game.
Westbrook, on the other hand, was said to be adamant about getting rid of the Wizards’ franchise player. If it hadn’t been for Beal’s unwavering conviction in leading a winning team in Washington, the veteran point guard would have brought the organization crashing down around him.
While the Westbrook-Wizards split seemed to be reasonably painless and simple on the surface, the reality is that The Brodie was ready to destroy the team.
