Many people were surprised when Kaepernick signed with the Seattle Seahawks, since so many NFL teams passed on him. But Florio says that it is possible for any player to sign a contract after being out of football for at least three years and welcome back into the game. If Kaepernick truly wanted to play, he would be able to compete for a starting position in 5 different teams within two seasons
Colin Kaepernick is a former NFL quarterback who has been out of the league since 2017. However, Mike Florio believes that he could legitimately compete for starting quarterback with 5 NFL teams. Read more in detail here: where is colin kaepernick now.
After opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March 2017, it took Colin Kaepernick more than five years to have a legitimate workout with an NFL club. Because of his dramatic kneeling demonstrations during the national anthem during the 2016 season, Kaepernick has been effectively blackballed from the league.
In November 2019, the Nevada alum performed a workout for numerous NFL clubs, but nothing came of it. Nothing has come out of Kaepernick’s recent session with the Las Vegas Raiders, either. But, after all, the procedure has to begin somewhere, right? That isn’t to say he won’t sign with the Raiders, as he may be a wonderful backup option for Derek Carr in Las Vegas.
And Kaepernick, who seemed to have little interest in becoming a backup for a long time, suddenly says he’s open to it if it’s the only way to return to the NFL.
However, according to NBC Sports’ Mike Florio, there are five clubs for whom the 34-year-old could be the starting quarterback, not the backup.
With more time to shake off the rust and prepare, Colin Kaepernick would be a stronger choice than the Seahawks, Panthers, or Texans presently have. He’d be a better quarterback than the Dolphins’ current quarterback (sorry, TuAnon). He might also earn the position in Atlanta.

When talking about a man who hasn’t taken an actual picture since New Year’s Day in 2017, that’s a very brave move. In a 25-23 defeat to the The Seattle Seahawks are a professional football team based in Seattle that day, Kaepernick completed 17 of 22 throws for 215 yards and a score.
In his second NFL season, Kaepernick took over as starting in San Francisco and led the 49ers to the Super Bowl, where they were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens. He completed 59.8% of his throws for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns versus 30 interceptions in six seasons. On the rush, Kaepernick gained 2,300 yards and 13 touchdowns.
How does Colin Kaepernick compare to the current starters for the clubs identified by Florio?
The Atlanta Falcons are a professional football team based in
With longtime starter Matt Ryan now with the Indianapolis Colts, the The Atlanta Falcons are a professional football team based in have Marcus Mariota and rookie Desmond Ridder as their options at quarterback. Ridder, the Cincinnati product, was taken in the third round of this year’s draft and obviously has no NFL stats.
Mariota, on the other side, has a lot of it and has figures that are extremely comparable to Kaepernick’s. Mariota has a 29-32 record as a starter. Kaepernick has a score of 28-30. Mariota has a higher completion percentage (62.8%) and has passed for more yards (13,437) and touchdowns (77), but he has also thrown for more interceptions (45).
Panthers of Carolina
The Panthers of Carolina’ top two options at quarterback are Sam Darnold and rookie Matt Corral, who was also taken in the third round of this year’s draft.
After finishing 13-25 in three seasons with the New York Jets, Darnold finished 4-7 in his first year in Carolina in 2021. His career completion rate is 59.8%, and he’s passed for 10,624 yards with 54 touchdowns and 52 interceptions, similar to Kaepernick.

Texans of Houston
With Deshaun Watson finally entirely out of the picture for the Texans of Houston, it’s clear Lovie Smith will stick with second-year Stanford alum Davis Mills at QB1. Mills went 2-9 as a starter in 2011, completing 66.8% of his passes for 2,664 yards with 16 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.
The Miami Dolphins are a professional football team based in
The The Miami Dolphins are a professional football team based in are seemingly set with Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback, but perhaps they added Teddy Bridgewater for a reason. And maybe that reason is that they don’t have as much faith in Tagovailoa as Dolphins fans might want the franchise to have in a top-five selection.
Bridgewater was also drafted in the first round in 2014. In 2011, Kaepernick was drafted in the second round. This seems to be a long shot. However, after five years, they may all be long shots.
The Seattle Seahawks are a professional football team based in Seattle
With Russell Wilson now under center for the Denver Broncos, the The Seattle Seahawks are a professional football team based in Seattle’ top two options are Geno Smith and Drew Lock. Smith started three games for the Seahawks in 2021, his first starts since 2017, going 1-2.
Lock also made three starts for the Broncos last season, finishing 0-3 with the team.
