The inaugural LIV Golf Invitational was a disaster by all accounts. It took an embarrassing three days for the event to conclude and neither Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy played in it. But, that hasn’t stopped the competition from moving ahead with plans on bringing back an improved second edition next year.

The “liv golf leaderboard final results” was an embarrassing disaster and a rousing success. The tournament had many issues, but it also had some good moments.

Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and many more golfers officially left the PGA Tour this weekend to compete in the first LIV Golf Invitational in London. For the last several months, LIV Golf has only been able to talk the talk; but, this weekend, the new golf league was able to walk the walk.

Unsurprisingly, the much awaited occasion utterly failed. The RBC Canadian Open on the PGA Tour, which was taking place across the water, was held with better golf, more exciting spectators, and more dramatic and emotional atmosphere. For the competing tour, it was a bit of a catastrophic start, but it was also a huge success.

LIV Golf Invitational fails in several ways.

If LIV Golf’s intention is to provide fans with a league that is more exciting than what the PGA Tour presently provides, it failed terribly in its first season. Some viewers turned in on Thursday to check out the flashy new gadget, but as the weekend wore on, curiosity waned.

According to a tweet from Darren Rovell of the Action Network, the invitational in London fielded an average of 94,000 YouTube viewers on Thursday. That number plummeted to 54,000 on Friday.

Charl Schwartzel, Hennie Du Plessis, Branden Grace, and Peter Uihlein squared off for the title on Saturday. Who wouldn’t want to see that, really?

With a total score of 15 over par, Johnson, Mickelson, Talor Gooch, and Sergio Garcia placed last. After the first round, none of them were still in the running. Only eight of the 48 competitors in the three-day competition finished under par, and Schwartzel ultimately won with a final score of 7-under.

This weekend in London, there wasn’t much to see unless you love watching average players play average golf. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, and Tony Finau put on a show for the throngs of spectators in Toronto while competing on the PGA Tour. McIlroy was able to fight off the attack with an 8-under 62 to win the RBC Canadian Open at 19-under par despite the three making a total of 24 birdies in the final round alone.

Only on golf’s most prestigious circuit can you find the drama, fervor, and tremendous shot-making that was there. 48 emotionless golfers played three rounds in London, acting as though they knew they would get a sizable check no matter where they placed.

LIV’s product will always be subpar, regardless of how many amateur players it poaches from the PGA Tour.

But maybe it won’t matter.

How the LIV Golf Invitational still managed to be a huge success

The RBC Canadian Open was much superior than LIV Golf’s debut competition, although Greg Norman may not have given it much thought. Golfers may participate in this league whenever they want and wherever they choose while earning enough money to provide for their family for many generations.

Norman simply cares about seeing the PGA Tour struggle. Johnson and Mickelson have already been included, and additional players like Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, and Rickie Fowler are on the way. The finished result isn’t that important since the Saudis have enough money to fund their hobby project indefinitely.

This weekend may be deemed a success because LIV Golf has the PGA Tour scurrying to reclaim its dominance.
