“I Call Him My Human ATM”

A few months ago, I came across an interesting article titled “I Call Him My Human ATM” on a Sportandwellness.com blog. The author, Anthony, wrote a touching and funny story about how he’d met a man named Joe in a gym, and how the two had become friends. Joe, a homeless man, was looking for a place to stay and a job, so Anthony let him stay in his apartment, and gave him the job of cleaning up after the 2PM crowd at the gym he frequented.

Nearly two decades after his final NBA game, Michael Jordan is still as competitive as ever. He’s simply discovered a new way to express his ruthless demeanor: golf.

Jordan, who is 58 years old, often challenges PGA Tour players to money matches on the golf course. What’s a few thousand dollars when you have a net worth of $1.6 billion? However, Bradley, Keegan, a major winner and close friend of Jordan’s, has spent so much of the NBA legend’s money on the course that he has earned the moniker “Human ATM.”

On the golf field, Michael Jordan is a big gambler.

Jordan has always been a big gambler, but now that he’s retired, he’s just become more serious about it. At his The Grove XXIII golf course in Hobe Sound, Fla., the former Chicago Bulls great plays money matches against PGA Tour players on a regular basis.

Jordan will take on anybody on the course, from Rickie Fowler to Brooks Koepka to Justin Thomas. And there’s no limit to how much money he’ll spend.

In 2018, Fowler told Action Network’s Jason Sobel about playing against Jordan, “Those are some of the greatest preps for going out and being ready to play championship golf.” “He’ll play you for whatever you want him to play you for. Whatever frightens you.”

Jordan has won a lot of money at his home course from some of the greatest golfers in the world, but he’s also lost a lot of money.

Jordan’s net fortune of $1.6 billion earned him the moniker “Human ATM.”

You don’t go into a golf match with Jordan without bringing your wallet filled to the brim with cash. MJ isn’t going to participate without a stake in the game, so agreeing to a match versus the GOAT is a high-risk, high-reward proposition.

Over the years, PGA Tour golfer Keegan Bradley has found that choice to be much more rewarding than risky.

Bradley went on ESPN’s SVP and Russillo in 2015 to discuss what it’s like to play golf with Jordan. He apparently made so much money off of Michael Jackson that he had to give the Hall of Famer a new moniker.

That’s what makes it so lovely. That’s why I like interacting with him. I refer to him as my human ATM. I can simply walk out there and contact [him] that day if I need money. He is, nevertheless, an excellent player. It’s a lot of fun to play with him since he’s constantly in your ear. He’ll go to some difficult locations. ‘Man, that was some harsh things he said to me,’ you’ll think after the round.

Dealing with nasty talk is a minor price to pay for Bradley when he’s regularly earning money from the world’s wealthiest sportsman.

When Bradley attempted to speak crap about himself, MJ shut him down.

Bradley may beat Jordan on the golf course every time, but Jordan will always have the upper hand when it comes to trash talk. He’s mastered that aspect of his game after years of squabbling with Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, and Gary Payton on the basketball court.

When the Charlotte Hornets owner took over the team’s Twitter account in 2014, Bradley attempted to chirp Jordan, MJ responded with the ultimate clap back.

“MJ How does it feel to be beaten by me at bears club every day?!” Bradley was the one who inquired.

“You were wearing MY shoes the last time I checked. Jordan replied, “You don’t see me wearing Air Keegans…”

Mic shattered.
