The Milwaukee Bucks have made the playoffs and are fighting for their first NBA Championship in franchise history. Some players on the team, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, have expressed frustration with all of the hype created by social media. Ultimately, they just want to hoop without being bombarded with praise from fans while continuing to play hard every game as they try to win a championship.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a Greek professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks. He is a 6’11” power forward, who has been praised by many for his athletic and skillful play on the court. In an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, he said that he just wants to hoop.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Expresses How Tired He Is of Receiving Everyone’s Praise, Says He Just Wants to Hoop

The majority of NBA superstars want to be recognized. They want everyone to acknowledge and thank them for their hard work and brilliance by showering them with plaudits and prizes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a unique player.

Sure, Antetokounmpo is one of the league’s most accomplished players. He’s won two MVPs and a Finals MVP award, as well as being named to multiple All-Star teams. While Giannis appreciates all he’s been given, he’s grown bored of the accolades.

All he wants to do is hoop.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has a lengthy record of achievements with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is just 27 years old, which is hard to comprehend. The Milwaukee Bucks great may seem to have been in the NBA for a long time, but he is just getting started.

Antetokounmpo has won the following trophies and honors throughout his first eight years in the league:

  • There have been five All-Star appearances.
  • Five players were named to the NBA All-Star team.
  • Honored as a member of the All-Defensive team four times
  • Most Improved Player in 2016-17
  • Defensive Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season
  • MVP of the NBA twice
  • MVP of the 2020-21 All-Star Game
  • Champion of the NBA
  • MVP of the NBA Finals in 2021
  • Team accolades for the NBA’s 75th Anniversary

That’s an astounding list, and he deserves every single one of them. But with such accomplishments come accolades from all across the globe. And Antetokounmpo, who intends to play in the NBA for at least the next 20 years, seems to be sick of all the attention.

Giannis claims he’s sick of being complimented.

Antetokounmpo was reportedly ecstatic when he realized that he was placed No. 24 on The Athletic’s list of all-time players. Giannis even revealed his boyfriend, according to Eric Nehm’s post for the site.

While the star forward appreciates the honor, he also said that he dislikes being praised.

“At the end of the day, all those accolades, I have to set them aside, and you have to keep working, because compliments slow you down,” he told The Athletic. “They seize you and drag you away. … ‘Oh. I’m among the top 24 all-time players. ‘Over here, I’m the big dog.’ That just serves to slow you down. I’d rather not think about it. I’d want to consider how I can improve.”

“There are so many diversions today,” he said. ‘You reached the top 75, you’re No. 24, you’re the Finals MVP, you’re a two-time MVP, or you’re this, this, or this.’ I’m sick of this nonsense… well, I’m not sick of it, how can I put it? I’m sick of being complimented. Okay, folks, I know, but all I want to do is hoop. All I want to do is play basketball. All I want to do now is keep playing basketball and see where it takes me. I’ve spent my whole career doing nothing but enjoying the game at all times. I’ve tried to play hard, and I’ll continue to do so. It got me this far, and I’m hoping it gets me even farther.”

Throughout it all, Antetokounmpo has maintained his reputation as one of the world’s most modest sportsmen.

Even if he’s sick of it, Giannis will almost certainly get more accolades as his career progresses.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has already established himself as a legend.

Antetokounmpo may just want to dunk. But since he’s so brilliant at it, he’ll almost certainly continue to be praised by everyone.

The young Greek has shown that he is a generational player. He has the athleticism to match up with any guard in the NBA, as well as the size to match up with any big man. His abilities have earned him a spot among the NBA’s elite scorers and defenders, putting him in the same league as Michael Jordan (Giannis, MJ, and Hakeem Olajuwon are the only players to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season).

Antetokounmpo has brought “bully basketball back,” as Shaquille O’Neal put it, but with a modern twist.

Antetokounmpo is one of the best basketball players in NBA history, and he will almost certainly continue to get all of the accolades and honors he never expected.
