Deshaun Watson may be the most complete dual-threat quarterback in the NFL, but there’s a reason he hasn’t been selected to an All-Pro team. With gunslinger skills and a rocket arm, the Houston Texans’ quarterback was the perfect man to take down the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional round. And while Watson is an incredible player, his inability to sit still and learn the playbook is holding him back from being the best. ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer laid out the case for the Texans to consider trading Watson earlier this week, and it’s easy to see why. Watson is a great player, but his lack of focus is holding him back.
The Denver Broncos are as popular as ever, but their defense is getting old. The team is still a force to be reckoned with, however, and is currently 6-2 on the season. Last year, they finished the season with a 12-4 record. This year, they seem to be peaking at the right time.
The Texans are in the offseason and that means Deshaun Watson, the franchise quarterback, is gonna be in the news a lot. But why? Because a lot of reports this past week say Watson will be joining the Broncos. Now, I’m not going to add to the pile of speculations about what’s going on behind the scenes because I don’t have the kind of insider knowledge that we get with some of the other NFL sites. This might not be the best time for Deshaun Watson to get into it. The disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback hasn’t left the team in months and is demanding a trade. He is also the subject of 22 lawsuits filed by women who claim he sexually abused or harassed them. The quarterback reportedly told his former teammate that he now wants to play for the Denver Broncos. Watson doesn’t have much leverage, and it’s absurd to think he can go wherever he wants.

On Aqib Talib’s Catchin’ Fades podcast, Watson’s former teammate Kareem Jackson revealed that Watson told him he wanted to play for the Broncos. I have a great relationship with Deshaun, said Jackson, a Broncos teammate. I’ve been talking to him for the past few weeks and all he said was: Jack, tell them I want to be there. Says he: I want to be in Denver. Jackson and Watson were teammates in Houston during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Watson is sticking to his plans and wants to leave Houston. He has not participated in any organized voluntary team training.
Why do the Denver Broncos need Deshaun Watson?
. Watson is clearly not happy that the Texans hired a new general manager and coach without his input. They also pissed him off by selling away his main weapon, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, before the 2020 season. The Texans, meanwhile, signed Watson for $156 million and four years. The Broncos acquired Teddy Bridgewater in a trade with the Carolina Panthers in August. Bridgewater is a veteran quarterback who will be up against Denver’s young and talented wide receivers. Yes, Watson is an improvement over Bridgewater, but he is much cheaper and has no baggage. The Broncos will pay Bridgewater $3 million this year (the Panthers will pay him another $7 million). Watson will earn $10.5 million this year for the extension, and he will earn $35 million in 2022. Right now, salary would be the least of Denver’s problems. Although no criminal charges have been filed against Watson, 23 lawsuits have been filed against him, one of which has been withdrawn. He is not happy, he makes a lot of money and his reputation is questionable to say the least. The Broncos, or any other team right now, would be making a mistake if they offered the Texans draft picks or players in exchange for Watson until the deal is settled.
Watson’s damaging accusations must be his priority
. Watson will be a serious distraction for any team he plays for in 2021. Football shouldn’t be the quarterback’s biggest concern right now. He is expected to try to resolve his legal issues, although his lawyer, Rusty Hardin, said the allegations against his client are a money grab. In April, he even went so far as to say that the 22 women are liars. The answer to the question of whether we say the 22 complainants were convicted of allegations of sexual misconduct on Watson’s part is clearly a yes, Hardin said in a statement in April, according to USA Today. It’s hard to imagine 22 women who don’t know each other making up stories. They have 22 women saying the same thing, said David Ring, a Los Angeles attorney who has represented victims of sexual assault. It’s different than one or two. With one or two, Deshaun Watson can take over and set up a defense. But if it turns out to be 22, it’s Harvey Weinstein. Ring is not involved in the Watson case. The NFL also conducts its own investigation and may impose a penalty. Watson’s problems go far beyond the fact that the Houston Texans didn’t ask for his input in the search for a CEO. He seems misled by demanding a trade and then picking his own team while having 22 grievances in front of him.
